Christmas Knits

During 2010 my knowledge and skill in knitting increased significantly. For no reason other than I decided to try something new, and have since discovered that so much of knitting I'm interested in is pretty easy. What with youtube videos and ravelry.com you can't go wrong.

Knitting a few Christmas gifts for family this year wasn't necessarily in my original plan, but since the idea first came up in February last year. So it probably wasn't in the plan, b/c I didn't have one yet. Christmas had only just passed. The idea came when my sister-in-law emailed me requesting these. Which are too cute, and I love owls, so how could I not make them for her. The yarn I used matches this scarf I made for her last Christmas. And she was thrilled with the outcome!
The next gift idea came into my head because I just never know what to get for my brother.... ever. (He and my husband are the hardest people to shop for. Why exactly are guys so hard to shop for?) I had the idea of making a hat with his band name embroidered on it just before he sent a Christmas list out saying he enjoyed getting things with his band name on them. My idea was still a stretch as far as what he was thinking, probably. Last year he got a leather guitar strap and a belt with his band on it, I don't think yarn was what he had in mind... oh well. I went with it anyway. After several tries on the embroidery, I was finally okay with how it turned out.

(My husband modeling. Thanks!)

In the end, I think it turned out to be a pretty good gift. He was at least impressed I made it by hand. :)
