Last weekend I headed to see these lovely ladies in Lexington.

The purpose? To pick up this:

Our new (to us) car!
We had a great time, mostly running errands, hanging curtains, building bookshelves and the like, getting Martha's new apartment all ready before classes start back.
It would've been a great trip, whether or not there had been a new car to drive home. But I was just so excited about it the whole time driving home! Then, to add to my enthusiasm, there was a package to David, waiting for me on our doorstep from a
favorite blog of mine.
I was so disappointed it was marked to David, b/c I was pretty sure I knew what it was, and if I wasn't supposed to get it until my birthday, or something.... well, it's just a long time to wait! So when David got home I bugged him about it, and he let me open it.

He was going to buy this as an anniversary gift this summer, but by the time he looked into it they were sold out. I was so disappointed. But then a week ago
Alicia contacted him saying there was an extra kit if he was still interested. Yay for an early b-day present!
Also, in other apartment decorating news, I've desperately been on the hunt for new lampshades. And in my search have discovered 1) how picky I am, and 2) how hard a nice looking reasonably priced shade is. But while in Lexington I came across one that fit my criteria! First, here's a before of the lamp.

Black shade, with gold lining. Making everything look golden yellow. And really not emitting much light. And after...

Voila! White shade, bright white light. Now, maybe I'll think about spray painting the base... color or neutral? In the meantime, I'm just loving the improvement!

I love the blog report of the weekend! David told me about that item being sold out. I'm so glad they found one just for you.
That does sound like a lovely weekend! I'm so happy you have wonderful lady in-laws. :) The ABCs are so you. I love the lampshade and what a darling car. I wish you could come interior design my house ... on like 200 bucks total. Wouldn't that be awesome if one could do that? Love you, friend.
